Ivorian Haulage Firm Orders 60-Ton Lowbed Semi-Trailers
Transporting heavy construction machinery like excavators, bulldozers, and crawler cranes over long distances requires lowbed semi-trailers engineered for maximum deck strength, low center of gravity, and heavy-duty loading ramps. Recently, our export facility hosted a senior technical delegation from Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, seeking to upgrade their specialized lowbed machinery fleet.
The Operational Challenge: Concentrated Loads and Ramp Fatigue
During engineering discussions, the client outlined critical challenges when moving 40-to-50 ton crawler machinery across West Africa:
-
Concentrated Load Point Strain: Excavator tracks exert extreme localized weight on deck cross-members, causing structural deformation on standard steel lowbeds.
-
Ramp Fracture and Bending: Heavy tracked equipment climbing rear ramps frequently leads to hinge cracking or spring collapse.
-
Ground Clearance and Driveability: Finding the balance between low deck height for overhead bridge clearance and sufficient ground clearance for unpaved site access roads.
Custom Engineering for Heavy Machinery Hauling
To solve these operational risks, our technical department demonstrated customized structural configurations on our 3-axle 60-ton Heavy Duty Lowbed Semi-Trailer model.
1. Reinforced Main Beam and Concave Cargo Deck Design
The trailer main beam is manufactured using high-strength steel (Q345B/HG60) with a heavy-duty double-web design. Cross-members are spaced at tight 350mm intervals to distribute concentrated point loads evenly across the frame. The drop-deck working height is set at 1,050mm, lowering the center of gravity and stabilizing heavy machine transport.
2. Heavy-Duty Dual Spring Ramps
Rear loading ramps are constructed using double-folded channel steel reinforced with thick spring assist mechanisms. This setup allows smooth, safe loading of heavy tracked machinery without dynamic shock damage to the rear frame structure.
3. Heavy Duty Axle and Tire Package
To handle 60-ton payloads, the trailer features three 16-ton heavy-duty axles paired with 235/85R16 doubles or 12.00R20 heavy-ply radial tires, delivering superior weight distribution across all wheel hubs.
On-Site Testing and Load Demonstration
The Ivorian delegation witnessed live stress-testing of the lowbed frame inside our production workshop. A 50-ton heavy crawler excavator was loaded onto the working deck via the rear mechanical ramps.
Our engineers demonstrated the frame’s minimal deflection under dynamic movement. The delegates also verified the thickness of the 4mm diamond plate steel deck and tested the operation of the side extension brackets (outriggers), which expand the working width from 3.0 meters to 3.5 meters for wide-body machinery.
“The structural reinforcement on the rear ramps and the tight spacing of the frame cross-members give us complete confidence,” noted the lead fleet engineer from Abidjan. “Loading 50-ton excavators will no longer risk frame bending.”
Procurement Contract Finalization
Following the live loading test, the Ivorian delegation signed a contract for 10 units of 3-Axle 60-Ton Lowbed Semi-Trailers, along with spare ramp spring assemblies and side extension brackets.
